Today we are here with 4 most common eye conditions along with the best possible treatment for them.

With the ability to differentiate up to 10 million colors, the eye is a vital organ. But, unfortunately, some daily activities we undertake put us at the risk of losing our vision. It is wise to take your eye health seriously and seek medical advice in case of complications. Below are four common eye conditions. They include the following.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration affects the retina’s central area, the macula. As a result, it leads to difficulties in reading and other daily tasks. In addition, with a reduced focus of the eye, images appear blurry. Two classifications of macular degeneration include exudative and atrophic cases.

The early stages of the conditions have no noticeable symptoms. However, the following are its symptoms:

  • Blurred central vision
  • Blind spots due to partial vision loss
  • Unclear vision in dim light

It does not contain any cure to treat the condition completely. Rather medications to control the abnormal growth of blood vessels are essential. Your risk of developing macular degeneration can increase as you age. Because of this, it’s important to continue getting annual eye exams to detect any issues as early as possible.

Inflammation/Uveitis

This condition takes place in the Uvea, where most of the eye’s blood vessels are plentiful. In severe cases, it may lead to the destruction of the eye tissues leading to loss of sight.

The classifications of Uveitis are:

  • Anterior Uveitis – Affects the front of the
  • Intermediate Uveitis- Affects the transparent gel of the eye
  • Posterior Uveitis – Affects the choroid and the retina, which are at the back of the eye, and they suffer the effects
  • Pan-Uveitis- Affects all the parts of the eye

Uveitis manifests as an opportunistic disease. Due to low immunity, people with AIDS or rheumatoid arthritis are likely to be prone. Major symptoms include:

  • Sensitivity to light
  • Redness of the eye
  • Pain in the eye
  • Blurred vision

An optician can prescribe the ocular steroid treatment to reduce the inflammation. You can use anti-inflammatory pills and injections as a substitute. The DEXYCU is an anti-inflammatory injection that acts as a one-time treatment. However, to avoid eye drops, injecting it into the eyes to spread over time is vital. An antibacterial prescription is an option if inflammation results from infections. Surgeries to remove excess vitreous humor may also be the last option.

Cataracts

Cataracts is one the most common eye conditions. It occur when your eye’s lens becomes cloudy and light cannot pass to the retina.

Cataracts symptoms include:

  • Straining to see at night
  • Lack of the ability to see through light
  • Colors appear faded

One can use lenses or eyeglasses to correct this condition in the early stages. Surgery may also be an option to replace the lens with artificial ones. Family history can be a determining factor in how at risk you are of developing cataracts. If you know family members who have cataracts, you will want to be aware of this and prepared to undergo possible treatment.

Diabetic Retinopathy

According to aging care, this condition results from diabetes complications. Changing blood pressure weakens the blood vessels in the eye.

The symptoms of diabetic retinopathy include:

  • Losing vision
  • Dark spots in your vision
  • Color recognition deteriorates

Your doctor can administer laser treatment to prevent loss of sight in the early stages. Unfortunately, the advanced stages of this condition do not have a cure. Surgical removal of the vitreous can also be an option.

Options to Treat Sleep Apnea

Such common eye conditions (problems) should not hinder you from living your life to the fullest. Seek medical attention as early as possible to ensure that you know about your eye health.
